4 Easy Hairstyles for Hot Weather

Between the heat, humidity, and endless summer plans, no one wants to spend an hour styling their hair, only for it to fall flat (or puff up) the second you step outside. That’s why we’ve rounded up 4 of our go-to styles for hot days. They’re easy (really!), cute, and built to hold up in the Louisville heat and humidity.

1. The Slick Back Bun

ree

Why it works: Chic, polished, and keeps everything off your neck. Great for the office or an event!

How to do it:

  • This works best with second or third day hair- the oilier, the better!

  • Smooth it back with a bit of styling cream or gel.

  • Part your hair as usual and gather in a ponytail at the nape of your neck and secure with a hair tie.

  • Start by twisting your hair and then wrap hair around the hair tie to make your bun and secure with bobby pins.

  • Finish with shine spray or hairspray to smooth everything and lock it down.

Pro tip: good quality bobby pins make all the difference in keeping your style intact all day long! Use pins that match your hair color to hide them easier. Check out our favorites here.

2. Braided Ponytail

Why it works: Easier than a french braid, this look adds texture and changes it up from a regular ponytail while keeping your hair contained and stylish.

How to do it:

  • Pull your hair into a high or mid ponytail.

  • Braid the tail (standard 3-strand or a fishtail if you’re feeling fancy).

  • Secure with a clear elastic. (Our favorites that won't break here.)

Pro Tip: Want a fuller look? Use texture spray or dry shampoo before braiding and then loosen slightly by pulling on each strand to expand the braid. We love Keune's Get a Grip for this!

3. Claw Clip Twist

Why it works: On-trend and effortless. Plus, it gives your scalp a break from tight styles.

How to do it:

  • Gather hair at the back, twist upward, and clip in place with a large claw clip.

  • To elevate this style for a night out or a day at the office, (rather than looking like you're just cleaning the house) tuck the ends in instead of fanning them out. It instantly gives the style a more refined, French twist-inspired finish.

  • Pull a few pieces out around your face for a softer look and add a slight curl to really take it to the next level.

Pro tip: Use a metal clip like this 3 pack or an embellished clip like this one to dress this style up!

4. Half-Up Top Knot

Why it works: Keeps your hair out of your face while still showing off your length or texture.

How to do it:

  • Take the top half of your hair and twist it into a small bun at the crown.

  • Secure with a small elastic or mini clip.

  • Tug on pieces of the bun for amore undone look.

  • Leave the rest down. Natural texture or your second day curls are welcome here.

Pro tip: Great for curly and wavy hair when you want a little volume with minimal effort.
